Even after the Season 1 crackdown, Marvel Rivals players are still using mods, putting their accounts at risk of bans.

After the successful December launch of Marvel Rivals, players have been modifying the game with custom skins, despite the risk of account bans. Notable mods include Iron Man as Vegeta from Dragon Ball, a goth version of Mantis, and Jeff the Land Shark transformed into Pochita from Chainsaw Man.

In conjunction with the launch of the Fantastic Four and Season 1 last week, Marvel Rivals implemented a covert mod restriction using asset hash checking. NetEase, the developer, clarified to IGN that the game’s terms of service ban mods, cheats, bots, hacks, and any third-party software that isn’t authorized.

It all happened when NetEase earlier alerted Marvel Rivals players about the risks of modding and emphasized this again in a statement to IGN: “We do not recommend altering any game files, as it may result in a ban.”

Nevertheless, some players remain persistent. A new workaround has emerged and is gaining traction online, requiring more steps than before but still manageable for most PC users.

The modder known as Prafit, who shared their workaround on Nexus Mods, cautioned players with the message: “Use at your own risk,” as stated in the mod’s description

Prafit explained, “This method bypasses the system put in place to stop modding with the Season 1 update. While it’s unclear whether NetEase will ban you, as far as we know, they haven’t issued permanent bans yet.”

Following the addition of Fantastic Four characters, new mods have emerged. Ercuallo’s mod, for example, transforms Mister Fantastic into Luffy from the One Piece manga. According to Nexus Mods, the Luffy mod has already been downloaded over 5,000 times within just two days of its launch.

The lingering question for Marvel Rivals modders and mod users is whether NetEase will enforce its ban threats. Although no instances of players being banned for modding have surfaced, the ongoing use of workarounds may lead to stricter measures.
